MIDDLETON CHENEY – OUR VILLAGE

10% INCREASE TO VILLAGE HOUSING ON ONE SMALL SITE

A Coventry-based developer has applied for planning permission to build 131 houses in one small field, at the Farthinghoe end of Main Road – 4 out of 10 will be 2-bedroom units for social housing.  This will increase the size of Middleton Cheney by 10%.  As the plan overleaf shows, the properties have tiny gardens and there is only one very small area of play space in the middle of the site - far smaller than the statutory surface water drainage area.

This housing will be TWICE AS DENSE as any other housing in Middleton Cheney, bringing conditions of inner city proportions to what should be our rural village.

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS? The Parish Council has yet to provide detailed information about it and so a concerned group of residents has decided to try to ensure that as many local people as possible are aware of it, and have the opportunity to give their opinion on the proposed development.

HOW THIS WILL AFFECT YOU

  • The site is the furthest possible from village amenities (shops and schools) and so traffic along our streets will increase significantly. Think what it is like at the moment at either end of the school day!
  • Parking in the village centre is already a problem – the addition of about another 200 cars will seriously add to this.  Children and the elderly from the estate will use their transport - they won’t want to walk that distance along a busy Main Road to the village centre
  • Both schools are already full – Chenderit has a waiting list now – so how will they cope with the expected numbers of extra pupils?
  • The turning onto the by-pass is already extremely dangerous – a mini roundabout at the estate entrance is not enough – a large roundabout at the Main Road junction is vital
  • There is nowhere near enough parking provided on the site and so there is bound to be overflow parking along Main Road and its verges
  • The Parish Councillors know that the sewage plant is running at capacity now – it cannot cope with this many extra houses

Middleton Cheney may need more houses - but not 131 crammed into one small space.
