May Day 2012 - 7th May

The 2nd Annual Scarecrow Trail

After the highly successful Scarecrow trail last year I have been asked to do it again in 2012.  The theme will be “Olympic” so the scope for interpretation is massive and should hopefully produce some fantastic displays.

The format will be the same as last year – entry forms will be available before the event and all entries will be included on a score sheet for visitors to vote for their most favourite.

Maps of the village and the score sheet will be available from the Parish Office on the day (and maybe a few other places around the village this year).  The scores will be counted and the Cup will be presented to 1st place, a bottle of sparkle to 2nd place and a box of chocolate to 3rd place.

I am hoping that the Library will be able to offer a refreshment stop during the scarecrow event as after last year people said it was a long walk with no refreshments; it is also hoping that the Pre-school will offer a refreshment stop.

The all new Teddy Bear Parachute event

I have asked the church to host a Teddy Bear Parachute event on the same day and they have agreed which is fantastic.

This event will be run on the bases of all teddies welcome – after a brief medical check – parachutes will be attached to willing bears and they will be escorted to the top of the church tower for their jump.  I am hoping we can have a teddy bear medic and teddy bear first aid centre just for a giggle on the day.  Jumps will be at the cost of £1 each or owners are welcome to get sponsorship for their bear and to donate the money to the church (more details as I work it out!!)

As a club/group in the village it is hoped that you will try and get involved in this event in some way which will help to promote your group, maybe fundraise for you group and generally just help make the event a success that we all want to do year on year.

I hope to have Scarecrow entry forms, Teddy Bear Parachute entry forms and sponsorship forms on the website by early in the New Year.

Let me know what you think.
