Believe it or not behind this lot is the Lollipop lady trying to cross your children in a safe manner! The parking outside the Primary School has in recent weeks become not only ridiculous but dangerous with several parents repeatedly stopping on yellows or zig zags to drop their kids off.

As reported in the school news letter (check out the school page) it has been confirmed that parents are welcome to use the Village Hall car park for drop off and pick up and with a foot path going straight past the school gate its a safe and quick way to drop kids off to school.

On a weekly basis, number plates are being recorded and passed to the school, who are forwarding them to the police. It is possible if you are a repeat offender you may receive a letter from the police asking you to think about how dangerous your actions are for ALL children attending the school.

We also checked with the police and they are happy for number plates to be published on this website in an aim to encourage parents to think before the park.

Well sadly the landowner hasn't been left with such lovely memories! He provided litter bags for people to use but it seems that even with his efforts, loads of litter has been left behind.

John Taylor - MA VetMB MRCVS from Mansion Hill Veterinary Practice has written to the schools in the village to suggest a community initiative involving the children in clean up this area, he wrote

"As I'm sure you're aware, the children and families had great fun in all the snow sledging down the hill immediately to the right of Astrop Road immediately over he bypass.

Unfortunately, a huge amount of litter has been left behind despite the best attempts of the farmer to supply a litter bag. I regularly run and walk dogs down the public footpath and it's a shame to see our village like this. Most of the litter is plastic sledging material with some drink containers. I'm sure it wasn't malicious dumped; most looks as though it would have been lost then covered by the snow.

However, I don't think it's fair to expect the farmer to pick up the rubbish and would like to do something about it.

I wonder if you might be interested in a school litter pick as part of your environmental and community education lessons. I would be willing to liaise with the landowner, and supply the surgery truck, gloves and staff to help pickup and recycle as much as it as we could.

I appreciate there are health and safety implications, but think this would be a great opportunity to increase future generations'awareness of human impact in the environment.

Kind regards

John Taylor

The Primary School have taken this on board and have organised an after school working party for Monday 15th March, meeting in the main reception area of the school at 3.30pm

Surprisingly after repeated attempts to contact the senior school there has been no response, which is disappointing as many of the students of Chenderit age would have been among the many people enjoying the slopes.
