The Garden Club continues its’ sequence of successful Winter and Spring meetings – the next on Wildlife in the Garden on 15th March at 7.30 in All Saints Church. Contact Jane Duty (710608) or David Thompson (711115) for further details.

Once Spring comes, we break out into the open. A further bulb planting expedition is in view, as are our coach visits further afield to grander gardens, Trentham and Hyde Hall.

Our annual Plant Fair will take place on  the 8th May on the Middle Green in Middleton. Given its popularity in previous years we expect to have even more growers and plantsmen with their stock of new plants and replacements for Winter losses.

We plan to include craft attractions and to be fuelled by the WI Cake Stall. Like the plants, the cakes sell out early so we should be ready for action by 9 a.m., then through to early afternoon. For further details contact Maggie Smith (710252)

The Middleton Flower & Produce Show in association with Parish Council and the Village Hall will be on the 11th September. Usual classes, together with Photography. Produce from village gardens will be on sale. Schedules will be available in the summer but grow now with the Show in mind! Unlike the cartoon image of a show in which two or three established gardeners fight for victory, the Middleton Show always reveals new (or even lucky) growers. Come on, all those compost heaps must be producing something!

Our next meeting is on Monday next, 18th January, in the Church at 7.30 p.m.

In 2002 a number of gardens in the village were opened for the first time under the National Gardens Scheme. The outstanding success of this event resulted in the formation of the Garden Club. Lord Heseltine agreed to be our President and generously donates bulbs and plants that we sell at the annual plant Fair.  We also receive invitations each year to visit his garden.

The Annual Plant Fair is held every May on the Village Green and draws together Nurserymen and women from the Oxford/Northamptonshire area selling wide range plants and pots.  The Club stall has a different theme each year and is joined by the W.I. who sell their wonderful home made cakes.

The other big day that the Club is involved in is the Village Hall Fete and Parish Council Open Day in September when we have the Horticultural Show which is open to ALL, members and non-members.  Entries increase each year and we receive great support from both the Parish Council and the Village Hall.

We meet on the third Monday of the month in the Church at 7.30pm when we have talks, demonstration and slide shows from a wide range of speakers.  We try to visit a couple of local gardens each year and invite neighbouring garden clubs to the village to visit our gardens and enjoy refreshments at Pear Tree House. Trips have included Highgrove, Kew, Wisley, Tatton Park Flower Show, and a weekend in Alnwick.

Our membership is £10 per annum plus £2 per meeting which covers refreshments and a raffle ticket. If you feel that this is the type of Club you would like to join, do come and you will be made very welcome.
